It’s Time for the Leaves to Turn, turn, turn
Do you know how the corporate production manager and cost control department head broke their arms raking leaves? They fell out of the tree.
You see sometimes folks try to cut corners and not let things grow and achieve their potential as gifts to the universe. Let’s look at a leaf for example. Now a leaf comes forth. From a bud in the spring and all summer long soaks in the sun and cranks out oxygen —unlike grass which. Pretty much soaks up water especially in cities where people often water grass with water we’ve already paid to clean, add healthy chemicals to, and send out through municipal systems to individual houses. Oh and jusat in case you think a little lawn here and there isn’t a big deal consider the fact that on the planet there is three times more space dedicated to planted and groomed grass than corn. Now I’m sure there are a few good uses for lawns, however we can eat corn, heat houses with corn, producesynthsized plastic bags, run automobiles and one of my favorites... make some mighty fine whiskey. What can you do with grass? Mow it?
Okay back to the leaves. So these leaves provide shade lowering our cooling. Costs and just when the weather starts to turn cooler and the days get shorter... the leaves announce that the season is changing by changing. To all new. Amazing colors and then then they fall to the ground in time to provide nutrients to the soil for the coming winter.
Oh and before we talk about how awesome this contribution to. Our experiences is... let’s try to create some peace by looking at the long-standing debate about whether it is healthier for your lawn. To rake the leaves or. If. It is better. To let them fall where they may so to speak.
Well a Michigan State. Study has determined that if you. Make sure the leaves are not all wet and matted into the grass, it is absolutely healthier to let them lay where they fall. As one. Researcher put it... Did you ever walk in the woods where people never rake? The leaves don’t seem to interfere with the growth of grass, shrubs, and other trees. Now if you allow your. Leaves to get all wet and stay matted down. Against certain types of grass they can in essence smother the grass and that happens because the ground cover. Is great for developing a type of mold that is harmful to the grass. On the other hand if the leaves are dry and crunchy as most fall leaves are, they will more often break up and feed your lawn nicely. The best of all worlds is to. Wait three or four days after most the leaves have fallen and. The sun has dried them a bit. Then take out the mover and grind them up where they serve as excellent free mulch.
On the other hand if you want to rake go ahead, however make sure. You have some kids play in the piles before you put them in plastic bags and put them. At the curb where the least fuel efficient vehicles on the planet come and pick up and drive them to a place somewhere on the edge of town. If you believe in picking up your leaves and yet you don’t have the equipment or time to rake —or you don’t buy one of those blowers to blow them into your neighbor’s yard, you could pay to have them removed. However, be aware that the average price tag for leaf removal. For one season is around $350.00 depending upon where you live and it can near $600.00. So you can pay several hundred dollars for removal in the fall and then go buy. Mulch in the spring or you can take one last fall trip out with the mower and call it good.
The point is... these leaves fill their purpose all year around and the act of falling to the ground just might be. A continuation of these leaves fulfilling their purpose.
How often do we hurry things to a conclusion like a conversation once we hear the part we want to hear or ohow often do we miss most of beauty along the road because our mind is focused upon what we think the destination will look like? We so often can’t wait for all the leaves to fall so we can. Rake them all up and put them in their nice little bags and maybe our need to control these leaves doesn’t help. The lawn that we are trying so desperately to make look good?
So maybe it’s a bit healthier to render that to every thing, turn, turn, turn, there is a season...
Enjoy the fall colors.
