Give Us This Day ?

GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD—

I apologize

Somehow  in the course of human events I haven’t carved out the hour or so it usually takes to write out  thoughts about peace and joy.  There are a thousand good reasons for this, however, who really cares?  I mean. Some of the folks who read this  care about my well-being and I am not nearly grateful enough  for that.  The bottom line is I’ve been looking for the holy grail lately.  I’ve been looking for the few paragraphs and examples that. Can smooth the paths on what has been a bumpy road for a lot ofolks for several months.  So now that I’ve. Built a six lane superhighway to hell...

You see I’ve forgotten one of the very important ideas I usually live by.....

See the title.   I recently saw and shared a facebook post that  illustrated how every major spiritual theory sometimes called faiths  or religions. Has the golden rule.  well. Seeking peace and joy certainly. Means  appreciating that to. A great degree.  In addition, I Peace and joy is an active process that. Is sought daily in. One’s thoughts and in one’s actions and my actions haven’t  reflected something I think is very powerful.

Peace and Joy happens daily.  so what is one day of peace worth?

These days a lot and if we stack them back to back for a while we have a joyful life and if we stack a whole bunch of peaceful and joyful  days and hours and stuff together it’s  very impressive.

If  one million people  would spend. 1 hour  thinking and acting toward peace and joy that would. Be 114 days worth of peace.  Now if everyone in america spent one  hour seeking peace and joy it would be over 103  years worth of peace and if we did this once a week for a year it would be some 5,366 years worth.

so starting  today I’m. Putting my hour in  every day (which is more than one per week).  I’m not sure the. Hour will be 60 consecutive minutes, however  it will be the full 60.

also I will dedicate my entire body to it including the  60,000 miles of blood vessels in my body just like yours and  of course I will forgive the  30,000 to 40,000 skin cells that float off into  space every minute (or hour I lose track after 16).

To summarize Peace and Joy seeking is a daily bread sort of thing and if we can do it Together  we can change the attitude In the world significantly—-just look at the numbers—

See you tomorrow

Driving with our lights on?

ARE WE DRIVING WITHOUT OUR LIGHTS ON?

It is a gray day.  No, not  the new sweat pants heather gray—more like the wet old sidewalk color or the spooky tombstone just before dark color (it’s getting close to Halloween so there must be spookiness).  It is spitting something wet from the sky.  If it were less serious you could call it mist and if were a bit  heavier it would qualify as drizzle.  It’s a good day for a walk.  Well there is rarely a bad day for a walk, however on days like today your routine represents a purpose because 90% of folks aren’t out enjoying. The day (too bad for them).

So my path turns  me into traffic or more correctly I’m on the sidewalk  and the traffic on the one-way is  coming my way.  Some  headlights are on bright which is a bit shocking at first and then I realize that is just a cosmic wake up call.  Then one,  two, three, four out of the next  7 cars don’t have lights on at all.  On a day like this I’m not sure that’s  legal motor vehicle operation and it’s a little careless I’m thinking.  Then, as often happens—the question  comes to mind....”why did I notice this at all?”  “What is it about Me......—-oh my!!!! That’s it!!!It’snot about me.

So these folks are driving without  their lights because  they aren’t worried.  They can see  everyone just fine.

Lights off —The Metaphor

So since they can see just fine it doesn’t. Probably even dawn on these  drivers that they are not. Very visible  to others.  Why should they be concerned with their fellow  roadsters?  After all, if I can see well enough to drive isn’t that good enough?

Well.... let’s shed a little more light on this for a second

While you can see well enough maybe someone seeking the light you might have to share  isn’t staring in your direction.  Maybe there’s a bit of fog or rain in the eyes of  a person who might  want to see you sliding across. The intersection up ahead.  Maybe your joy is just a little farther away than you unassisted vision can reach, yet your lights might hit something and the reflection might reach you.  reflection is often important. In seeking peace and joy.

In short sometimes it is important  for us to drive with our lights on.  Important for  us because we might  see something we aren’t exzpecting and important for us because others might see us and make connections  they wouldn’t have. On an otherwise  dark and  rainy day.   Also it is   Often in the  “margins” that they difference is made (just ask a major league pitcher.).

Also consider that  headlights shine on others and the road ahead while spotlights well whey often blind folks.   Now you might say... you don’t need to be seen and sometimes that’s true but  to let others. Know where you are and where you. Might be headed can clear up a lot.

so when. In doubt flip on the low beams and see what happens...you may be able to move forward  into the light of peace and joy.

Golden rule building blocks 1020

 GOLDEN RULE BUILDING BLOCKS 1020

As it often happens with songs... the lyrics shift around over the weekend and wind up in a little different  place from  where they started... So. Here they are... now I’ll round. The edges off a bit and record. This soon

For now. Have a great day and  wish one for someone  you know.

UNTO. OTHERS

we’ve got to stop our thinking in terms of what we lack

Think more  on what we’re giving and less on what we’re getting back

No need to  look with envy at someone else’s stack

Doesn’t matter how. Fast  a train runs if it’s not on the right track

Chorus

we’ve got to do more to help each other

Our  sister and our brother

Help a stranger get through  what they’re going through

Try hard to remember

January  through December

Do for others what you’d have them do for  you

Unto others have you’d have done to you

far too many jokers  seeking  tarnished golden  crowns

We have. Enough ships but we still don’t care who drowns

Too many tired and lonely people in. Forgotten. Towns

Politics is  just a circus. With far too many clowns

Chorus

If you have  a few drops in your cup act as it is half full

Find out who you can lift. Up  not who you can control

Don’t forget to dance and sing when you hear that rock and roll

Worry. Not  about  your bank account save the riches  in your soul

Chorus

Some October building blocks in honor of John Lennon

1020 Building Blocks—Together

Human history is filled with  examples of  the choice between  can’t and won’t.  Some people in some situations simply cannot do some things.  As a very good baseball player once said “hitting this guy today was like trying to  hit an aspirin  in a snow storm.”   There are always a large number of things we haven’t learned how to do yet and there are always a few things  various environmental  realities will prohibit.

On the other hand there are many things we  don’t believe we can do or we haven’t haven’t figured out how to do or why to do yet.   There are  other things we try todo alone that  kmight happen if we find  some folks to do them with us.   There are still other things we simply  choose  not to do.  These are  the basic ideas I have been passing through my  awareness while  wondering what changes  in our world could be explored.  For example one day a couple days ago my daughter pondered “what if we weren’t spending all this money on weapons to deter other countries  from launching  an attack

What would our country look like?”  After all once you have  played tic tax toe long enough and produced  enough firepower to destroy the world dozens of times over.... what real steps can be taken to change course?  This to me. Seems to be a question of. Can’t versus  won’t.

Okay... well... then I brought this down to a  more personal level and started working  out some lyrics.   Theses are not finished, however, they fall solidly  in the realm of. Won’t and  plead with. Folks to use won’t when it fits and then to think about other choices.

The main question these lyrics explore is  why don’t we?  Is it because we can’t. Or we. Won’t....

If we will only see the world in terms of what  we lack

If  we look with hate and envy at  another  person’s stack

If we will only give as long as we are getting back

Does it matter how fast our train rolls  if we won’t choose a new track

If we won’t help each other does it matter what laws. That we make?

If we won’t help each other. Does it matter which of them we break?

If we won’t row together  can we really cross  the lake?

If we won’t open hearts together  are we ever  quite awake?

Well that’s the start...some building blocks... there will be some more by the weekend...

Until then...

Accept the things. You haven’t learned. How to do yet and help others own their choices with. Open hearts and open minds

Peace.

What are the odds

What Are the Odds?

You Will Miss 100% of the Shots You Don’t take

This post takes a brief peek at some “odd” odds and their implications for seeking peace and joy.

We start with the  matter of not  making the effort to explore and experiment or  at—thus the quote above.  Well now...I am certain that many times people think about taking a shot at something and decide it’s not in the cards and while one might imagine that happens dall too often maybe we could modify the statement to say.... ...and if you don’t assist others in taking their shot you just miss even more.   That is  to say maybe  it’s chances we take together. That matter and maybe it’s the encouragement we share that  allows people to adopt the experimental  framework needed to seek peace and joy and make hopes become real.  After all...imagine a field goal kicker without a holder (Lucy being the exception). And imagine a NASCAR  driver without a  pit crew.  Imagine a quarterback without  an offensive  lone.... Okay imagine a ...well just. Imagine what a world where. Nobody. Helped would look like.

summary point—Take  a shot and let others help and when others. Take a shot help them.

The Odds are 1 in 117 that your pilot is drunk.

Holy Top gun Maverick... So if you are a frequent flyer chances  are  the pilot was flying before he or she  took that  metal tube and rocketed it through the sky.  Now see you were taking a chance and if you are reading this things turned out okay.  Also air travel is safer  than car travel so maybe we. Should require at least  117 people to be driving drunk—-oh wait they probably are so maybe we should keep working on these self-driving  options.

Summary point—you do brave things every day and a lot of times you don’t recognize them, however, others may and that’s important.

One in Four People in the United States will have a diagnosed condition that is considered. A disability for a significant portion  of their life—significant portions may vary but are at least 6 months.

So let’s cut the crap about  wanting to be “normal.”  Somebody walking through your door, sitting. Across the table, riding  in your plane hoping. You have pilot 116,  etc... is going go approach life using alternative means of  interfacing. With the environment.  Heck they might even be a liberal (JK).  With this type of  reality one might see the real value in  finding multiple ways of teaching and learning things, getting from place to place, arranging housing, and well doing almost anything.  Oh and the next time you go through an automatic  door or ask your phone to tell you something be grateful that these disabling. Conditions created  a path to  an enhanced life for many many folks

Summary point

Normal is a setting on the wash machine. And labels are for  jars—inventing  a variety of  ways to do things by accepting  a variety of. Possible solutions is probably  a value able  way to approach life.

The Odds that a left-handed person will get injured using  something designed for  a right handed person is. About One in 4.4 million

On the other hand. The odds of finding something designed for someone left handed people is about. 1 in 100 million (just Kidding) Also the odds that you have permanently scarred  hands from trying to write left-handed in  a Catholic school in the 1960s is  well even money at worsat so it’s  lucky you can grip anything at all.   Reports vary greatly  with regard to how many people are. Naturally left handed, however, maybe  the lesson here is that we often get used to the way we do things and assume everyone else is better off doing them that way.   Somehow  it seems we enhance our odds of  being open to peace and joy if  we use our other hand or change our vantage point  from time to time.  Just don’t trim your nails with a left-handed chain saw.

Summary Point learn to drink with your “opposite” hand because. If you finjure your dominant side and you have to deal with health care administration you are going to need a drink but don’t do that drinking. At the airport.... you don’t want to spot  117 after you’ve gone through security.

Well there is about. A d100% chance  this is about enough for today.    In  the end you can take chances... or help those who are... You can’t control the odds of some things you will have to do, however, they will probably work out.  You will not always be able to take the “normal” path and not everything is going to be designed for your. Benefit, however if you approach things with. Modesty, courage, and open minded  notions—the odds might just be in your favor.

Politics and uncertainty the study guide

UNCERTAINTY: STUDY GUIDE—POLITICS

Apology

This entry starts with an apology.  The hope was that this segment would have come about a week ago and then thought was given to the upcoming presidential debate.   That event has informed some of what. Follows.  It took some time to  swallow, digest, and eliminate some of the debate and subsequent  analysis.  Then, our nation’s first family was  diagnosed with the virus  that grips the world.   It seemed appropriate to witness some initial responses and the uncertainty of these events before offering  a few words.  The words below are filled with statements that can be modified and claimed by those holding far more extreme views than  I hold, however, they are written as illustrations not declarations in most cases.  Having said this...here goes. Something?

The Selling of Uncertainty

This blog has already  highlighted how politics has become a ocean of selling uncertainty and fear.  The formula is easy.  Make a statement that. Your opponent is going to take away something or create some  horrible circumstances if. Elected.  Then if you please, however,  it’s not alway done, you can mention  you will do something different if elected.  This is a simple formula because you can characterize  an opponent based on a single  factor like health care distribution—Health care distribution?   He we have a lot of health care in this country and in the world the debated is not  about availability  per se it is about access, the right to choose, payments for, and control over what profits may  be available.  In short it’s not about “health care” it is about health “Justice.”

Anyway this process of characterizing  someone  according to one  single factor introduces simplicity and for some simplicity reduces uncertainty.  The problem of course is  that logic and common sense  migh argue. That simplicity in this way can lead to  trouble.  After all. Classifying a human according to one trait is the same as saying  most skunks have black or dark hair with a light stripes so don’t hit  someone  who has dark hair with a graying. Streak because you’ll never be able to  get the smell off your car.  Most mass murders have  10 fingers and ten toes when they are born, however, what do a lot of parents look for. When their children come into the world?  Oh...too harsh?

Anyway in dealing with political uncertainty and trying to seek peace and joy beware of single character definitions because they. Can have you bouncing back and forth like some philosophical  lottery ball.

Paper or Plastic—the Great Debates

Less than a week ago the world and most notably  the American public had an opportunity to  witness the inevitable  product of our debate system.  Tad it extreme?  Yes.  Was it educational?  Yes—however, not in the way  that was anticipated. Was  it expected?  Well perhaps  it could have been—what?

As stated many times in other posts and above we have bought into this culture of pushing. Matters into the extremes.  We have, often as a culture, valued  a “in order for me to win someone has to lose” stance.  So we bring these into a stage where  making the first and most outlandish statement  seems to have some advantage and. Bingo..... you have the ingredients  for the classic recipe  for disaster.  It does matter that this debate was supposed to be presidential and hopefully. Preschoolers  weren’t taking notes...now  let’s talk seeking peace and. Joy in a different dialogue  and call it a debate if you wish.

The “Yes land”  Debate.

What if candidates were brought  into a conversation by the moderator and presented with the  two opposing  viewpoints on an issue-after all we have a lot already.  Then a “yes and “ format were implemented.  So the moderator or  one of the candidates would  take the issue and proposal a solution at which the other candidate could not discount or  directly diametrically  oppose the solution.  Instead the second candidate had to add something that she or he thought would enhance the idea promoted by the first  candidate.  Then observations could be made  in order to assess  how well each candidate worked toward actually enhancing solutions and forming compromised  enhanced formulations of  circumstances?  This would mean that. The two  options for election would  need to really understand and form  some sort of “empathy”  for a variety of  practical and philosophical points. Of view surrounding a variety of significant  life matters.  It also might lead to some nonpartisan  or “bi-partisan “  behaviors within pour government—-what a concept.

This sort of for more would promote unity rather than division—tolerance  rather than tyranny , and  civil discourse rather than civil war.

also in the “debate” we could introduce an improv  creativity” segment where the candidates. And one assistant were given a topic and ten minutes to write a song, author a poem,  write a short skit,  etc that demonstrates a solution.  Creativity  is the path through most uncertain situations and if the debate is supposed to reveal how candidates will handle uncertain things—well—-let’s see how they  work on something creative and use the talents of an assistant to build the most complete and  robust solution quickly.

So to wrap up the political section.... I  urge you to go out and get a copy of Lincoln’s  first inaugural  address and read the  last paragraph or two.  Search your soul and reaffirm  your belief that  selected and elected  leaders are better than  monarchs—in short vote.

The Uncertainty. Study Guide a Few Summary Notes

Rule 1. Uncertainty exists.

rule 2. We can’t change  rule 1.

Rule 3. We have some choices about how to frame uncertainty  and that choice can be to explore mysteries rather than to fear the unknown on a constant basis.

Rule 4. As a world, as a culture, and as individuals we  will continue to hold  on to some “as if”  ideas that are mistaken and will need to  work hard to forgive ourselves when we find some of the  theories we have held are. No longer correct or functional.  It is better to  deal with  all the mysteries out there with some degree of modest humility than to scream about how  wrong someone else might be because  usually the most rich and  most powerful folks shine the most blinding lights.

Rule 5.  It doesn’t matter who you elect if you don’t take personal pride and responsibility  for yourself and in our system your neighbor to some degree.  is this  saying the best way to handle uncertainty in politics is by following the golden rule—-yep

Rule 6.  Walk with someone on this uncertain journey... more than  one someone if. Possible... scared and lonely. Is a rotten place...adventures are usually better shared .  Take a look at “earth from space and. Understand  we are  pretty much  all in this together  bound  by gravity and our I’m perfect human nature.

Uncertainty the study guide part three extra credit

Uncertainty  The Study guide Part 3

Continuing our. “Uncertainty as a test” metaphor this part of the “study guide” covers what might be  thought of as the “bonus or extra credit sections of the test where there are no easy or strictly “LOL” correct  answers.  However, since we seem to create and experience uncertainty. In the areas covered below they can’t just be ignored.  These topics are. science and Religion

I am not a masochist  so politics is not being thrown into this today—yet  we won’t avoid it.... wait till  Monday...roughly  72 hours from now.

Topic 6:  science and Uncertainty (In the journey called seeking Peace and Joy)

The Big BS Theory

scientific  study is claimed to be a strong tool in converting and  reducing uncertainty about ..well everything in the universe.  as this guide addresses how science interacts with a person’s or a culture’s  experience of uncertainty maybe we could start with the  idea that  if you have a hammer  every l solution begins with a nail.

The  Big BS is this .  The scientific  method we use to bring meaning to our experience of the universe is  based on the assumption that to learn about  someting we can  break it up into smaller and smaller parts which we feel we can  not only observe, but we can predict what we. Will observe and introduce  factors (variables) that will impact what we. Observe and thus we can control nature, behavior, emotions, space, time, and the price of unsalted peanuts.

Now in order to  come up with  a list of things to study to reach. A level of certainty we have to  come up with a  theory and this is an opinion.  We then have to take this opinion and say—-“in order for this to be true or false we need to make some claims that support our theory or identify claims that might  wreck our theory and disprove them.  So there’s a Roman  are my captain trying to determine how wide a path it will take to move his army and since aa European train maker has these Roman Roads to work with it’s logical to. Design a tram track of the same width and since it’s easier to  design  rail systems. In the United States that will be capable of using overseas equipment we might as well  do that and since  it’s easier to move a rocket engine by rail than let’s say  on the back of a tandem bike well let’s design the rocket motors  to fit what a Roman soldier  decided.  This makes as much sense  as staring into a bowl of alphabet soup and seeing the  letters O G D and expecting it to either bark or start imparting the secrets of spiritual  salvation.

So now that you think  I’m suggesting we throw away science... let’s try a different hypothesis  Newton... Science is a very valuable tool for  some folks because it allows them to justify support  for decisions they have already made and that lenhances the probability  these folks will act to create their. Ideas in some “real” form Sowhat I’m suggesting is  that we create certainty and that the “science” upon which we create it is like a physical and spiritual box of Lego that offers both the jumble of uncertainty and the opportunity to. Build parts of life that  help us  create the meaning of experiences and thus provide the area a for creating. Peace and joy (Remember  them?”

So pull out science and use it, however  understand that  the history of science clearly  reveals that  most the time, most people, are wrong or incompletely. Knowledgeable  about most things.

Topic 7 Uncertainty and Religion

Well here we are—Science provides us with answers about  who we are, where we came from, what happens to our bodies when we die, how we will behave around food and around each other.  Now  just go back and put in the word “religion” for science and that will save me a lot of typing.  In fact, if we remove the spirituality component  nearly everything that can be said of science might. Be said  about religiopn.  Why then do a lot of scientists  get into battles with a lot of  spiritual leaders?   Now here’s where this gets sticky quick.  The  difference  in these two things is that  while science is  a way of demonstrating  levels of observable “certainty” religion claims to hold the better hand here.... Religion allows us to action beliefs that we  will not or cannot prove or disprove  under a lot of circumstance and thus gives us a biggeg box of Lego to work with.  Also faith let’s us and, in fact, cheers us on ,  to modify the Lego pieces  as life goes on.

So the big philosophical  question is ... “if we have to count on faith  to engage in uncertainty, then “are we. Able  and responsible to  be responsible and  credible agents.of “our. Own” lives?  Wow, I bet. You didn’t think we’d be dealing with “free will” did you sir Thomas Aquinas?   Now I invite you to consider this...

If free will  doesn’t  exist then uncertainty cannot  sustain itself  in human beings.  There is point in feeling uncertain if nothing we do say or think can  impact the experiences we have and the meanings we. Make of them.  does anybody want to be a robot?

OkayIf faith is “a set of beliefs” and some people hold. A parparticular set of them and another group holds a set of beliefs that  claims faith is  a myth how can. We judge those who would choose one over the other?  Aren’t we just making a choice  about which set of beliefs helps us  bring meaning?   Maybe science is the  religion that sells faith in the deductive method?  Maybe religion forms hypothesis based. Upon the meanings attributed to  actions  attributed to  faith?

Maybe  the same person can pull Lego from both sets to  explore the unknown rather than to criticize  others for the  pars of the universe they leave unexamined because their flashlight doesn’t work in that room.

In a room full of batteries you don’t need to steal someone else’’s  flashlight  to make yours shine brighter.

So... this. Isn’tdone and I’ve given you much to read.  That means the “summary and final parting shots on the uncertainty. Study guide  will have to come  in the next offering.  However, here is a sneak preview—-

Is there a limit to how certain or uncertain  any  of can be?   Would we know what that  was/is if it knocked on our door?

Uncertainty the study guide part two

MOVING  FORWARD IN UNCERTAIN TIMES—

It makes little sense to start something about moving forward by looking back—so that’s exactly what we’re gong to do.  Why?...We’ll get to that in Study Guide Topic 5.

However... if you didn’t read yesterday’s (or the last entry)  it’s probably polite to  provide a platform. For us to dive. From so...

If today’s level of uncertainty is testing folks, then why not employ an idea that  could be useful to many—using a study guide just like in school you know?

We  explored three parts of the guide in the opening section of this  topic.

  1. We might change thinking about  uncertainty by changing the. Language we use.  Instead of facing, battling with, or dealing with , uncertainty maybe we can  say “exploring uncertainty,  or opportunities or solving mysteries and thus we might  approach. Things with curiosity  more so than fear?
  2. Next we  introduced this idea that progress starts whercertainty ends.  The unknown is a big playgrtound where new and exciting things are possible.
  3. Then we had a brief look at  how/if past answers were the  path to  handling uncertainty or leading our exploration. Of mysteries.

So...let’s put a fine point on that and then move on  to three more  study guide. Points today.

Going back top Ozan Voral’s. Work seems. Fitting here... There are two examples he uses. That might  enlighten folks about how using the past might not make sense, however it happens anyway.

Did you know that an an ancient Roman. Road designer/builder decided  the size of many modern rocket. Engines?   That’s a bit odd you say?  Well it goes like this... These rocket parts were designed. So they could be transported by rail.  The Size of the rail in this country matches the scope of the tram system in Europe that these tracks were based on... and you guessed it these tracks were built using the model and sometimes the actual roads first  used by Ancient Rome.  Talk about  following the path of least resistance.  I guess if it’s not broke ...

Oh and  what about the Qwerty keyboard?  We were told that the home row. Was  designed because of the frequency  of the use of  the letters in the alphabet etc.  Well this is. Partially tre.  The keyboard pattern  was designed two that  the mechanical  hammers on a typewriter did not jam intro each other when a typist got fast enough to create such a problem AND  ... notice that all the letters needed to spell typewriter  conveniently  wound up on the top row?  Well maybe that  happened so that typewriter  sales folks could use the word. In sales demonstrations  without having to hunt and peck a lot?

So ... how often does the past dictate  the present if we let it?

Uncertainty happens when what we are and were good at no longer  might work... and this reminds me of  a quote and i am not sure who  said it, however it goes a little like this —

Talent is the ability to hit  the targets that many others can’t hit—Genius  is hitting the targets other people don’t even see.

Study Guide Topic 4 Uncertainty and the Future

I believe it was MarkTwain who remarked that most of the misery he had in life came from experiences  that he never had.  That is  worrying  about all that could go wrong created more trouble and fear than the things that actually happened.  So let’s talk about this concept. We call the future.  The future is our current prediction  about what might happen next.   Now without getting political let’s rip a headline from the news today.  A lot of folks are getting  feisty. About the appointment of a Supreme Court. Judge and folks on both sides of the aisle  want to claim that this will shape the court for the next 40 years.  This will shape the course of our country people say.... well let me ask this... how sure are you that you  won’t get hit by a bus next year?  Did you see the pandemic and all it’s impact coming?  What are you. Having for dinner tomorrow?  What impact will continued automation have on the world’s. Workingpopulation?  So if we don’t know what. Cases will be brought to the court and we don’t know. What lives  will be like why are we feeling the anxiety of the uncertainty that. Appointing. Someone might bring?  If each of us  demands freedom and responsibility, cares a little more. For each other, decides that  what. We do with and for each other  isn’t dictated solely  by the mechanics of government—then we  could  bring Ozzy Osborne  onto the court and we’re not. Going to be. Going off the rails on a crazy train.

Anyway back to the future... McFly... Do we worry because our current answers won’t fit. What we think the future will bring?  Well it’s not possible to  to know what answers will work, howeve all the answers we have used. Have brought us  right to where we are “uncertain! So... in exploring the mysteries (moving into the future—step forward into the reality to see what is there...be aware of what is really around you and then pick up those  sights, smells, tastes, sounds, emotions, and thoughts and create  a today that makes sense for you and your  loved ones.  If you don’t know where you are headed you can’t buy enough maps  and in fact any maps will probably do... because you can always use  it to cover up the spot on your wall left behind when you took down your Duran Duran poster.

Topic 5 Uncertainty and  Creativity?

Okay how many of us are currently finding or have found new ways to do our paid work?  Did we have to “think outside the box?”  Literally did we have to  think in our  makeshift home office instead of inside the cubical or. Office we sat in for 40 plus hours a week a few months aago?  It seems  odd that employers who couldn’t design telework or flexible scheduling in the past have been fairly able to do so now?  How many employers will study. The impact or value of this  new way of working and how many will just want to get back to the way things were?  Anyway it seems that creativity may be a key component  in engaging in adventures and solving mysteries.   What if. This uncertain thing is not about finding  security. In some  box out there and instead it is learning how to adopt a creative direct approach to constructing days that connect with your values and your plans to contribute to the progress of  a joint project or someone else’s certainty?  What can you do today to pump up your curiosity muscles and your creative toolbox.  Well ,,, one technique  that  has served some. Folks. Well in the creative process  is “flipping the script” sp tp s[eak.  Think about this... What would a school look like if we  weren’t concerned with producing an “average population?”  We created our current system to fill the needs of an industrial economy that doesn’t exist, to memorize  data that we can get by asking our phone, and we have determined that  fundamental education has to last 13 years for. Nearly all students even though we know that  life after school  is neither equal. In time or development  for all  former students.  So what if our purpose was to develop  artists in special fields who could. Communicate with other fields, but didn’t have to  “do it all?”  What if we didn’t shave all the  corners of the square pegs to fit them into the round holes?

If our  uncertainty turns to fear because we focus on the  worst (or almost worst). Case scenario —-what would uncertainty feel like if  we always viewed  it as the chance to connect with the best  case scenario?  Wouldn’t we welcome uncertainty then?

Well  the intent was to get through  three more  topics on this today...and lo and behold you have been  patient enough. Already and have enough words for now... Tomorrow we will look at  science and. Certainty  or and religion and certainty and then there will be a mixed. Bag of summary thoughts..

However, for now let yesterday go...out was good enough to get you here and left you without some of the answers... So remember  progress  and seeking peace and joy  and creating. The same comes not from  collecting the right answers, but grows  from the seeds known as the right questions.    So since you  will encounter mysteries. Today and in the “future” start. Asking questions and see what happens....

More  in the “present” you  now call the near future.

Uncertainty is the test here’s your study guide part one

Uncertainty: A Study Guide

Let’s say we’re all in the “school of life” for  a minute and  we know that there will be a few tests.  Now  when I was actually in school some teachers provided a “study guide” at some point in the chapter or right before the exam—right?   That really helped some students a focus on what the teacher wanted the a students to take away from the  materials being used.

So it seems these days we are in the midst of a master  class in navigating  uncertainty.  So.... while this study guide  (the next two or three entries and  related podcasts)  isn’t meant to provide the answers, it could provide some questions to consider that might  give you some choices. Regarding approaching the very certain uncertainties we all face.

Step one “Facing Uncertainty?”

What if we  dedicated one month in our life to changing one word.   After all we have changed words before.  As  Carlin reminded us we changed “used cars” to Pre-owned vehicles: and our weather  folks have changed a snow storm to a severe winter weather event.  Therefore, how about  instead of saying we  are “”facing” uncertainty—we say exploring uncertainties?  Better yet  everybody seems to like a good mystery—so instead of facing uncertainty could we  be exploring   Or investigating mysteries?   After all paraphrasing Oman Voral it is quite3 possibly  better to feel the  discomfort of uncertainty than it is to experience the certainty of being wrong.

So Point one on the study guide—don’t face uncertainty as if it is an opponent in a knock down  drag out fight.....blew it as a dance partner and explore the possibilities.

When Certainty is  Not possible

There are lots of times in life. When and where certainty is highly. Improbable and maybe not possible so the astudy guide should  discuss this.  A number of “great minds” have offered a statement that boiled down basically  tells us—“Progress  Starts  Where Certainty Ends.  science advances (and so do other  realms of human  inquiry) when we notice and start to consider anomalies .  We have discovered planets based upon the motion of other planets that didn’t fit nicely into  existing  ideas.  We are starting to understand.that intelligence has nothing to do with with race, gender, creed, or the size of a person’s left earlobe and personality is not dictated by the bumps on a citizen’s skull.

So study guide. Point. Two is—-our level of. Certainty  may not help us make progress and in fact our need  for certainty may  obscure possible  progress in undersatanding.

And the final. Study guide topic for today...

It is Better to Build a Boat Than to Curse The Rain or the Waves

I’m gong to go all biblical here for a second—sort of—Imagine Noah watching  wGOD live from Jerusalem when Skip Shepherd predicted a 60% chance of rain over the next week.  Now Skip couldn’t or wouldn’t  predict 40-days of rain because that kind of storm had never happened in the history of the planet and  the Babylonian  model often contridicted the “three wise men” satellite projections... In short Skip had to base his “certainty level” on all that had been certain in the past and So until  “Providence”  came and told  Noah differently, Noah was scouting the  bizarre  for an umbrella. Instead of searching the  Dead Sea scrolls for ship building  videoes.  So what’s this little story mean?  Instead of viewing. The past as lessons and tools we so often view them as truths. That will govern the3 future.

Point Three—Uncertainty exists because  what because there are gaps  in what the past has taught  us and what we are  experiencing no—otherwise we wopuldn’t be experiencing it... so just as the history of weather couldn’t really help. Skip inform Noah—feel okay that  your past won’t provide all your answers....so maybe  building a boat (creating some comfort with uncertainty )  is a way to navigate  the present and what may come—that and leaving plenty of room for a couple of elephants over there in the  bottom left section near the anteaters.

well there are the first few sections of your uncertainty. Study guide there will be more tomorrow if you believe in the future and that’s where the guide will  start tomorrow... with. “Uncertainty and the Future
