The seeking peace and joy dictionary P

 The Seeking Peace and Joy Dictionary   — — P — —

P is for

Pain...noun

WTF?  Seeking peace and joy is about  experiencing things and  bringing meaning to those experiences.  If one lives long enough (over a few seconds) the chances of encountering  pain in  many forms is pretty  substantial and therefore it seems reazsonable to seek something  from pain.  Pain can be a warning.  Pain can be a sign that  what you are about to do or just did is  a “hold my beer” moment and it mighty be a good time to start looking for lessons in the consequences.  Pain can provide an excellent. Opportunity to practice deep breathing and meditation where you can actually isolate the pain as a bodily function rather than  cranking it up into an emotional nightmare.  How exactly one does that  every time escapes me, however, I have.had it work enough that the experiment continues.  Pain is a common ground from which. You can heal and the healing experience is a great one to share with others.  Pain. Often helps us learn patience and gratitude for the times when  we are. More or less pain free.  I’m not suggesting hitting yourself with a hammer because it will feel so good when you stop, and yet I’m saying pain often cuts through the pretense of what might happen or what did happen and reminds you that HEY!  I’m pain and I’m here and now and so are you.  If you can experience pain that way then you can experience  curiousity that way, love that way, calm that way, excitement that way, boredom that way and the list goes on and on..... And as James Taylor reminds us that. It can help you go to Carolina in your mind.  Don’t pray for pain, yet know that it  can help us all understand the depth of our human experience.

Peace...Noun

Something you seek (see entries A through  Z

Pentecostal

Pentecostal...adjective

Setting aside the religious doctrines for a moment... let’s  look at the meaning...This word  describes being caught up or immersed  in the spirit of something.  If we are in the moment, in the flow of an experience physically or spiritually we are truly going “pentecostal!  The other part of Pentecostal is sharing your  story and experience—no you don’t have to speak in tongues—that’s why we have Google translate.  It is important however to share and see how your  experiential  envelope  wraps around others and  helps move them toward peace and. Or joy.  Seeking peace and joy is having the courage to a feel the. Body hit flow or the spirit moving. You and letting it rip..... It should be noted that if you see tongues of fire  you left a candle too close to the curtains so get the hell out and call 911

Pinball

Pinball...noun

This is a game where a ball. Made of iron bounces around in a  “table full of rewards and traps... gee sort of like. Life.  Sometimes you will see the ball come to a flipper and you can redirect the ball into a more positive. Place and sometimes  you’ll be looking at that good-looking person in the bar and  ooops—down the drain.. or so I’ve heard.   Seeking peace and.joy is sort of like pinball all sometimes.  You will have. Opportunities to change the impact. Of aan experience. Based upon the variety of lessons and meanings you can assign to it.  Other times it will be headed. Only in one direction and you’ll  need to accept the score as it stands  until. You either. Put another. Ball in play or. Until  you decide you have enough for one more game...   In seeking peace and joy the important thing is  not to tilt because  then you close all other options.  You can’t always control the game of life or pinball, and yet that doesn’t mean it won’t be interesting or fun and “who” knows you may become  a “pinball wizard.”

Puzzles

Puzzles ...noun

In seeking peace and. Joy it is sometimes a reasonable. Path to view  most of  your journey in terms of puzzles to be treated with. Curiousity and  experiments that. Can look like trial and error with each error  being a learning  task.  If you look at challenges as times you are not currently at peace or. Feeling or giving joy then you see puzzles you aren’ t asking yourself if  you can move toward  peace and joy you are asking. Yourself. How .   Maybe you are asking yourself. Who can move there with me and figuring out what tools you may need, but you are not asking yourself if you are worthy of peace and joy or what  you have to do to be worthy.  Remember however that even though you might see. The big picture the puzzle may never  be quite complete because your brother of sister took one piece so they could. Put the last peace in or when you spilled your Kool-Aid  one piece got swept off the table and is right over there  under the stack of recycling .  The point is  this... look at things  as puzzles because  it will help sharpen your curiosity, keep you focused on the immediate  surroundings and the fact that you are one piece in the puzzle of a community ands it can’t be complete  without your contribution.  Understand that you may. Have to move a puzzle piece in several direction to see how it. Fits and you may have to walk around the puzzle several times to see  some of the solutions.   Well and having said this  there are no more pieces to this  entry it’s time to. “Q” up the next  entry

The seeking peace and joy dictionary O.

THE SEEKING PEACE AND JOY DICTIONARY. — — O — —

O is for

Obstacles

Obstacles....?? See “opportunities

Obvious

Obvious ....adjective

One of the key tools in the  adventure. Of seeking peace and joy is sorting out  the obvious—what seems obvious. To you alone and what seems obvious to many, and yet gets forgotten.

POLITICAL RANT WARNING!!!)

OKAY WALKWITH ME FOR A MINUTE....FOR  A LONG TIME NOW I’VE BEEN HEARING ABOUT HOW. DIVIDED WE ARE AS A NATION OR AN “AMERICAN. PEOPLE” —

As several of my friends  and relatives might say

“HORSE SHIT”

Let’s take a stroll down Obvious Avenue. Shall we?

If you’d  like to see a cure for cancer raise your hand.  If you wish chocolate contained  all the vitamins needed for a perfect diet, raise your hand.  If you’d beat the crap out of someone hurting  one of your kids or the kids of someone you love, raise your hand.  If you’d like every. Time you had sex to satisfy everyone  involved completely and with no chance of  unwanted emotional turmoil, raise your hand.  If  you have no hands and you could  have someone  raise a hand for you smile and they just raised their hand.  If you would think it was unfair  if the government picked. 1219  people  every morning to  have an  unwarranted root canal without pain meds, raise your hand.  If you don’t think it would be good idea to televise your next colonoscopy , raise your hand.  If you  would oppose. A requirement to. Wear sandpaperlined glass underwear  every other  Tuesday, raise your hand.  If  you wish you hadn’t said “hand me that tequila (of wait that was just me)...

You see  we have ignored the obvious here and overestimated. A lot of our  human and cultural differences and it leads to strange definitions of our actual circumstances.  one last example and I’ll move on...

How many of us. Have been standing in line and complained. About how long the line is?  Well Sherlock you are the line just like when you are in traffic and complaining about traffic... you are the traffic!

Obviously to summarize it is worth  looking. At what things we see as obvious and what things are son obvious  that we treat them like a fish treats water.  Seeking peace and joy often means grasping the obvious and. Being thankful you share it with  many people...

Open

Open....adjective and verb...

Seeking peace and joy  sometimes starts. With being open to  new experiments.  If you are open to new  lessons in new circumstances and even in. Old ones  you may find a cart load of new. “Options” and meanings.  Open with a little  help from a. “-“ can be a pretty powerful  word.  When you come to adopt and you seek something. Inside it helps to see a sign that says open right?   When you  come to a person and ask “what do you think?”  It’s good. To run into someone who shares with and open -minded viewpoint and is open-hearted.   The point is “open indicates that. There is a chance to explore, be invited. In, and  to let someone. Know you are open provides. Both you and them with added. Energy.  You can plug into an open circuit and complete it and make things  happen...but a closed circuit get you pretty much nothing... so try to be an open circuit and  keep an open mind.

Opportunity

Opportunity—-see obstacle

Also  This is something. You  come upon from time to time, however. Be. Aware that opportunity  often knocks disguised  as hard work.  Opportunity. Is something you can always be looking for either for. An experiment of yours or  an opportunity to add energy to someone else’s creative efforts.  When we look for opportunities to enhance the peace and joy of others we often.get splattered with the collateral  peace and joy that erupts.  One of the key sources of opportunities is “failure.”  So-called failures  provide an opportunity to grow, a chance to reframe  problems in new ways,an invitation to build new teams etc... In short opportunities are sort of like  sand from the beach —your going to. Find them in the strangest. Places  and sometimes you can deal with them now but rest assured that  you will probably b e finding them later too.

Yep it’s time to move on—-

It’s important to be nice the seeking peace and joy dictionary. Nn

 THE SEEKING PEACE AND JOY DICTIONARY — — N — —

N is for...

Nail

Nail is a noun and a verb...

Well I’d rather be a hammer. Than a nail...except in most cases if all you can be is a hammer the whole world looks like a nail.  Anyway nails hod things together and also  valuable things  can be reliably held up by them so nails are good.  In seeking peace and joy it is important to find and be nails because you  will need to stay together with those  having a purpose. Like yours and  sometimes you will either need to hold something/ or someone up and you will need to be held up and supported as well.

Neon

Neon ...noun and a type of gas

Seeking peace and joy is a process of

of finding your glow and helping others find theirs and then  making the world a brighter place.  Neon doesn’t really work alone. And yet when it works with  a good design and  a creative  artist it becomes crazy cool.  So  use  your neon. Or find some and  get together to  light up your flow...

Nice

Nice...adjective

Somehow nice isn’t cool and how that happened is hard to figure out.  Having said that  being nice often increases the number of connections we can make and thus enhances  the power of our purposes and the energy involved in our experiments for change.   In short,  this entry can end with a campy quote that is altogether true in the process of seeking peace and joy—-

“ It’s nice to be important, but it’s important to be nice!!”

Now

Now is a Noun

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their land.  I had to type that just because. Of countless hours of typing practice.  Anyway  back to “now....One of the  big secrets inseeeking peace and joy is the knowledge that you don’t have to seek  peace for any time. Other than right now.  You don’t have to have guaranteed peace forever and you don’t have to be aware of everything that will happen to or for everyone for all possible future events.  Understanding now means  carrying forth the lessons of the past without having these  lessons dictate  the future- they provide  perspective and yet do not determine choices or absolutely dictate the realm of possible solutions.  The  now allows us to focus on the fullness of our current experiences and so we aren’t as prone to live in the if/then or in the when this happens then I can be happy world.

In short we don’t have to worry about the millions of bad things that might happen and we don’t  have to look for something richer in another time because we have learned to understand the fullness of attention on what is always around us...

Well ...that’s enough of now and for now—tomorrow when it is now we will enter the. O—zone

And then someone is putting you in a box and using  you as a prop all while  sawing your life in half.  Oh and sometimes you may feel all tied up and  underwater looking. For an escape.  On the other hand if you are willing to combine things in a way that is unexpected you may be able to get people to believe.in things that they didn’t think would be possible.

In seeking peace and joy we often have to understand that it’ necessary to suspend belief in what  most people  think isa long time and that takes some work and a few people who are willing to accept change and  David Copperfield eat your heart out— poof!!!!

Marshmallows

Mystery Tour

Mystery....noun?

In seeking peace and joy we need to think of  life as a mystery tour instead of a trip where we will. Need to be afraid of the unknown.  What if we defined life, the experiences, and the meanings to be constructed  as mysteries instead on things that produce fear and anxiety.  What is we engaged in the larining process like we do when solving a mystery and lived the excitement of finding clues along the way?  Mystery and curiosity  are incredibly versatile  and creative  tools in the  search. For peace and joy  and the journey of doing so. If we develop the skills  of considering  life a set of mysteries and growing the tools to solve them what a full life we could engage in and we would solve some of the mysteries —after all  many problems  “would have gotten away with making  life tough  if it hadn’t  been for those meddling kids  seeking peace and joy.

Well step right up for the magical mystery tour as it slides out of Monday  and heads into terrific Tuesday and we nudge our  noggins into the second half of the  alphabet.

The Peace And Joy dictionary K

THE SEEKING PEACER AND JOY DICTIONARY  — — K — —

K is for

Kansas

Kansas noun —a concept of  traditional  thoughts. Of status quo and home.

seeking Peace and Joy. Probably. Means some  number of moments when you will  think to yourself “Hey Toto we’re not in Kansas anymore!”

Here’s the deal change will always  lead to some feelings of not being in Kansas anymore and the funky part is we often think everyone  is now, has always been, and  will always be, in Kansas just like us.  the reality is “Kansas  is pretty much wwhat we  construct it to be and getting from a chaotic  place to. A newly constructed Kansas is  probably as simple  as knocking  your metaphorically Ruby slippers together. Three times.  Even though we can get to a new Kansas often it isn’t a bad idea  to reflect upon. Our own Kansas and  try to explain what it means. For us to others.  If we do that we are less likely to get caught up in someone else’s  twister and better yet we may avoid some of those winged-monkeys that create havok.

So it’s not bad to not be in Kansas anymore as long as we understand that we can create. A new Kansas. And commit to sharing enough that. We avoid twisters when possible.

Kindness

Kindness.... noun...

When  seeking peace and joy commit and get connected. With as much kindness as possible .  There is no more to say... except that little acts of this  create a butterfly effe t.

Knowledge

Knowledge. Noun

Knowledge is what the endless stream of information.swallowing us everyday I turns.into if we choose to learn and reflect.  Knowledge can be the fundamental building material for wisdom if  we collect the knowledge and attach it to something we might share about. A purpose.  In a world that offers  huge  avalanches  of information, it is easy to confuse raw. Information with knowledge.  Information can be touch and go while knowledge has to  settle, simmer, and be incorporated.

P. S.

Knowledge and Kindness should be enough  for  one day.... I was going to incorporate. “Knockin’ on heaven’s door as a term, however it is sufficient  to say “Knockin” is such a good song and so meaningful that all. One must acknowledge  is that many artists have made  this song a hit  so it must. Inspire  many... so.. be inspired..... realize that you may not be nor want to be in Kansas—there’s always. Room for kindness, Nobody is perfect so there is always room for more knowledge and it’s not so important that you are Knockin on heaven’s door as it. That Heaven and it’s occupants  knock on yours from time to time.

Tomorrow we will LOL or at least L

THE Seeking peace and joy dictionary J

THE SEEKING PEACE AND JOY DICTIONARY  — — J — —

J is for...

Jazz

Jazz  noun

Jazz is a type of  music where the musicians pay some attention to the  flow of the music and use. Their musical. Gifts to make  their instruments  produce a variety of  sounds in a flexible  space.  When jazz is done well it is neither  possible. Nor necessary  to have an exact plan or musical score as the single musician  is very expressive and the surrounding cast listens well enough to add to the this first  melody or  to provide  supportive harmonies.    If you listen to. Jazz. You will find that themes are important, yet. Folks don’t get. Upset with small detours and experiements by well  trained participants.  so it is with seeking peace and joy.  People have important themes in their lives  but the tune may not always. Follow along exactly. As  originally. Scripted.  In these cases you can choose to take a few minutes to support someone else’s  seeking  or you can improvise to add to  a new melody of your own.  Flexibility  and applying your gifts seems to be a feature of. Jazz and seeking.peace and joy so play what ever  instruments you have and listen  carefully to solo or support and  you will make great peace and joy music.

Jesus

Jesus ...noun ...

This blog generally. Stays away from  religious. Content, however, we’re going  there now because. Jesus  (no matter what you  believe) seemed to be a great teacher for those  seeking  peace and joy.  There is of. Course  all the parables  which are life lessons. That lead toward peaceful ways of interpreting  rough experiences.  there are prayers that have great cross-over messages for all  people of any faith... for example

“Give us today our daily bread...” which reminds. Us to worry only about the here and now... a dominant theme in  almost all religious  doctrines.  Jesus built a network of apostles who provided support for  the message he wanted  to provide the world.  He made it clear that claims about him being King of the Jews were claims made by others and that wasn’t his concern.  In seeking peace and. Joy it is not necessary most of the time to  be seen as the leader of a cause or a purpose, it is enough to let people know you fully support  somethimng and will act accordingly.  Jesus  helped other people  celebrate and worried about  the public as  he pulled off the loaves and fishes  feat and of course turned the water into wine.  the point is... he  pre3ached the message and didn’t need the hero. Worship until  he had to provide  the final example of  overcoming  worldly. Problems and often in seeking peace and. Joy we will have to provide unconventional. Examples to suggest to robbers what may be possible.    I’m not saying anyone should go around playing  God...of what ever you  call the mighty dirty or universal  light... I am suggesting that seeking peace and joy is not a solitary person’s effort, it requires. “Daily bread”, and if you can turn water into wine (or add something to someone else’s joy)  many things will become. Possible.

Jeopardy

Jeopardy.  Noun

A game show where  asking the ought questions is important and asking many questions is almost always  productive and profitable.  curiousity is  critical  in training for. This game and quickly shifting.from one  set of thoughts to  another is also  important.  so... being flexible and  curious are qualities that help  Jeopardy players and those seeking peace and joy.   The more questions we ask the better we might do and the quicker we accept new challenges where solutions area needed. The more rewarding our experiences. Might be.

To sum up learn, be flexible, and ask many questions and signal that you are ready to do so... and you may do well in the peace and joy tournament!

Justice

Justice Noun

a pope—-not. That long ago reminded us. “If you want Peace....work for justice.’  I believe it was. John the 23rd.   (Did you ever wonder if some of those popes had childhood nicknames and what  church doctrine. Would. Look like if  you had like a Pope Skippy or even like Cardinal Chuck?  I do hope that we will have. Pope Mary or Teresa sometime in my lifetime, however that might take a miracle.  Then again ... if you’re looking for miracles... the Pople is a better place to  start than say a corporate lawyer I’m thinking.... okay back to justice

Justice means  seeking equality and fairness in  relationships and in these relationships it means coming to an agreement on meanings and actions.  seeking Justice and then not clinging to  everlasting character assassinations  based on one time actions.  Justice is a way of teaching  personal responsibility and doesn’t need to become the mandate for anyone to judge everyone for all time.

Justice can be situational and can be followed by forgiveness.

OK.  Some folks might have notices that. This dictionary  segment didn’t. Include “Joy”.  How about you. Just spend some time thinking about what would make five people you know more joyful... and then turn to you and see how those five people’s joy might be. Connected. To you... just like the jazz musicians  and  then

Keep moving ahead for K tomorrow.

The seeking peace and joy dictionary I

 THE SEEKING PEACE AND JOY DICTIONARY  — — I — —

I is for...

Ideas ...noun

The best way to. Have a great idea is to have lots of them so you can pick  the ones that work right here and right now.  That is a quote from  someone smart who “I don’t remember”, however it’s a good one and so we all can use it.  Ideas are like the crayons in a big box—you won’t always use  them all  and yet you have them when no other color. Will do or. When you may need to use a few just to see what works  the best for the most people.  Ideas are like cars because the best one for you and your family or for the purpose  at hand may not be the best for someone else else, their family , and their purpose.  Yet. At anothe time your car may be perfect for the person who it didn’t work for. In the past so don’t be afraid to invite someone  to ride along from time to time.  Ideas are also like fish hooks so make sure you get them out there into the water so that the  ideas might catch the right fish and  provide  everyone fish to eat—however remember  that  if you give a person a fish they eat for a day and if you teach a. Person. To fish they can eat for. A lifetime... and if they don’t  like fish ideas are like seeds and if you plant them and believe in variety eventually. You or someone. Else will nourish them and they will produce fruit and again many could eat—can you tell it’s close to mealtime?

In short, don’t be afraid to have lots of ideas and share them because others can carry them forward and together you may  make them fruitful.

Idiots

Idiots....Noun

In seeking peace and joy it is critical to  allow. Everyone you come in contact with. A chance to understand  your ideas and to teach you about theirs.  Doing this. Provides  the materials to create experiences and meanings.  While it is important to accept a variety of people  it is not necessary to  save all idiots.  How do you identify. Idiots?   Well it is simple.... those who refuse to  recognize the value of numerous ideas  will eventually prove to be  idiots because life changes and people change.  This has nothing to do with politics, religion, gender, the length of one’s  toe nails or anything  else that is singular... Oh if you. Look at this as a singular thing you are  dancing on the verge of idiocy... There are any paths available. When seeking peace and joy... it is wise to respect that and if you choose not to do so...well  that is idiotic.

Interdependent

Interdependent. ....adjective or state of being

In so many cultures we believe the “independence” myth.  Seeking peace and joy alone is really.hard. you can try it and then again you can try do-it-yourself dentistry and probably even  do-it-yourself  brain surgery if you can hold. The saw at just the right angle.

also because we buy into this independence  myth we sometimes overlook our  ability or obligation to participate. In the experiences and purposes  set forth by others.  We. Just plain miss tooo many invitations for a richer life because.we don’t think it’s our business—well that’s what Jacob Marley  thought too as I recall.

Investment

Noun or Gerund

Seeking.Peace and Joy. Is an investment  in time and processes that  use attention, reflection, learning, and sharing.  Every now and then you will stumble upon some peace and joy because  even a blind squirrel  finds a nut every now and then, however more often that not you choose to create it and that means you are going to invest resources in doing so.  Now  just like the entry above suggests  sometimes you can’t be the sole investor in ownership. Of a purpose or an experience or a meaning sod from time to time  it’s good to invest in someone else’s  journey.  Invest in others as you would have them invest in you (sound  familiar?).  So... money is not what you might be investing...so what will you need to risk?  Creativity—curiosity—caring—-wisdom—empathy—and hard work, optimism persistence and the ability to experiment (HOPE)  are some of the capital  you will need to consider investing on your  quest to seek peace and joy.

well there. Are an infinity of more entries that could be offered here and yet keeping you  tied up on this Election Day does not seem J for Justified.

So think about. “J” for joining  us again tomorrow on the journey ahead.

The Seeking Peace and Joy Dictionary H

THE SEEKING PEACE AND JOY DICTIONARY.  — — H — —

H is for

Habits  Noun

after some. Consideration habits is being included here.  One of the tricky. Parts regarding  habits is that on the  one hand  we can think of them as processes. And behaviors guided by thoughts  that have helped us pursue a purpose.  on the other hand there can be a tendency  to execute habits  without being aware of their  impact.  Is this to say habits can be good or bad?  It depends.... habits without  attention that aren’t challenged regularly are  eventually going to limit the experiences available  and thus prohibit change.  In short  it seems that  a habit can be helpful if it is a means to a well considered and  thoughtful purpose, yet a habit  used for the sake of having one is ...well what’s that saying about. If you do the same thing in the same way and expect a different result?     More. On Habits  in the entry on “practice”

Happiness

a noun?

If you ask 100 people  if they want to be happy or want a happy life you’ll get enough electoral  college votes to win the day.  How Weber, if you ask that same 100 people. What happiness is.... you aren’t going to  get  100 similar answers...maybe not even 50.  So  imagine  you put happiness on a menu and serve the same thing to everyone.... how many people will go away hungry?   There are a lot  of self-help materials out there claiming to  provide the key to a happier  life yet few of these  bother to clearly  point out the assumptions they are making regarding. What happiness. Means.  to top that many of these “happiness”  handbooks start out by telling you  1) here’s how. You are not  measuring up and 2) they have figured out the absolute best way  for you and everyone else to measure up.  What if I believe the best way to help myself is to help others?  Do I need the  “Helping Others to Help yourself. Find Happiness by  Helping. Others why need you Help because you say so Handbook”?  Let’s say I find this  jewel and. Can’t understand it.  Then  do I need to find someone who is happy with. The self-help guide to helping others In oreder to help yourself handbook?

The other  problem with happiness is we  tend to treat it as a destination like ..

Well Burt you go down  to the corner of  security and steady employment, then you take a right turn toward meaningful relationships and you go  down past the red barn and just after the red barn you take the  gravel road to Old Highway 34.  Once you get to 34  you  start looking for “stuff I Owen that makes me seem cool”. Road and go three stop lights and take  a left and go straight on till you hit the round-about.  go around  to the third exit where you see a sign. For retirement at a young age.  Take that exit and somewhere down that road is happiness.  Oh, if you make enough money you can buy a helicopter and fly straight there unless you hit a spot of tubulance of course  and you may have to. Land in a mine  field.

Am I saying. Here that people cannot or should not be happy....?? No.. I’m saying  that  no one can tell you how. You. Can “be it” and if you aren’t at that particular destination remember  happiness is like a rollercoaster... it’s the ride that’s the fun part...not the destination....

Helping

A part of speech that should be a way of life

This will be the shortest entry.  Seeking Peace and Joy doesn’t  work without spending time helping  others...  Loneliness  is not peaceful and Helpless is not joyful... Don’t  move in that direction or push someone else in that direction.   Help others and the universe will. Do the same for you....you know that whole. Do Unto. Others. Thing.

Hub

Hub is a Noun. In relationships of two or more someone usually has to serve as a hub of the network sometimes.  In seeking peace and joy don’t. Be afraid to experiment with being the hub and  don’t forget to thank those who. Make the effort to be the hub.    Now if you are the. Hub...understand that  you don’t have to be in the center all the time and you can  just serve as a link between. Two or three others  until they are connected with or without you.   KYou see if you have ever seen a wheel  rolling  down the road you. Will note that the hub is important, yet if  many of the spokes are very weak, crooked, broken etc—the hub can’t  make the wheel  glide free and easy.
