Great questions of our Time: do we still have room for Jell-O?

The Case for

JELLO  Over Yogurt

WARNING—THIS IS GOING TO BE A LITTLE  MORE PHILOSOPHICAL THAN THE  TITLE INDICATES—JUST SAYING—

I would bet my bottom bitcoin  that a substantial search through the table of contents in western philosophy texts will not list Jello vs. Yogurt  under the heading “Greatest Debates of All Time.”  after all, it hasn’t had the marketing  help of significant  questions like  “tastes Great or Less filling” or even Paper or plastic?   Having said this I would set out the argument that we  would be  a richer. People for  engaging in the  Jello/Yogurt discussion.

Let’s Start withYogurt

What is yogurt?

Yogurt is a milk product obtained by fermentation of milk specific micro-organisms which shall viable active and abundant in the product —wait for it

Lactobacillus delbrueckii subspecies. (Subspecies) bulgaricus AND Streptocuss Thermophilus....  Yummy!!!

So it’s a special rotting milk slime and there is a special Greek  formula which contains some  special ingredients  (probably petrified Plato nail clippings or  left over mold from Aristotle’s secret underground  wine cellar just west of the Acropolis.  seriously they take milk throw some. Bacteria in it pasteurize, homogenize add sugar and fruit bits or whatever and put it in little plastic containers that  you can barely fit a teaspoon into.  You can freeze it to make something that. Is sort of like ice cream.  Oh.and it gets the reputation for being healthy, but  of course that may just be the low-fat variety.

How does it taste?  Pretty good once you  put all the good tasting stuff in it and  make it cold.

HThe History of Yogurt—-

Well it’s a shocker but  the ancient Chinese  have not. Claimed to invent  yogurt, nor is it depicted on the walls of an newly uncovered pyramid.  The origins have been traced to  ancient Mesopotamia  in about  5000 B. J. Before Jello... It was apparently  combined with looney and called. The food of the  gods.  Even the gods couldn’t  take the taste of plain yogurt.

Modern Day Yogurt

Well  due to marketing and the cute little. Plastic containers w2ith little bits of fruit in them yogurt has gained a reputation of being a health food.  I applaud the marketing effort, however, given the option of slurping down some  processed  warm milk orwalkingaroundthe block a couple times I’m lacing up my NewBalance cross-trainers.

Are there foods worse for you than yogurt?  Of course.  If it makes you feel healthy and reduces your stress  by eating it—by all means keep eating something you pay hundreds of dollars  a galllon for.   Ibuy printer ink so I’m. Not throwing the first stone.

Now lets’. Take a look at

JELL-O

In 1897, in the fine hamlet of LeRoy New York a carpenter and cough syrup manufacturer—He may have lived next to  the local dental hygienist/undertaker— named Pearle Bixby Wait and his wife. Mary invented  Jell-O.

Now  Jell-O  was made with all natural ingredients as you make gellitin  by boiling  animal parts such as skin, tendons , and various  and sundry  things.  You add some all natural sugar and a little fruit juice and some coloring chill it till it reaches. A steady state and you have  it.   Now you can mess it up by throwing real fruit in like  oranges and bananas  if you so choose.  It  comes. Hydrated in a box that can stay on  your shelf for  a good long time unlike the spoled milk called yogurt.  You can make a large quantity like for a church picnic and whipsome cream in it to give it that pink fluffy  texture.  Oh sure they  have  put it in little plastic  cups  now...because  it’s hard to carry  a huge bowl of  it in your. Lunch. Box or little brown bag.    In terms of  eating and storage... well of course “There’s  always  room for Jell-O”

Jell-O is flexible.

Yogurt unless it is frozen. Is  pretty much just plain runny.  Jell-O  can be  just about any shape you need. It to be.  Put in a mould.  It can be round, square,or you could even make a parallelagram.  Heck put your  Jell-O in an ice cube. Tray and  when it’s ready you could build a scale model of  the Great Wall of China—-let’s see you do that  with your bottles of (sp) Dannon  low-fat mango.

Also you can make a  real nice point about. Something unclear by saying “it’s  a bit  difficult—sort of like “nailing Jell-O to a Tree.”

getting  to the  heart of the matter....

Jell-O may not have any nutritional  value whatsoever, but itdoesn’t pretend  to be anything but a simple fun snack.  Yogurt on the other hand is complicated.  In seeking peace and Joy I wonder how many times I have gone down the complicated. Road instead of  just sticking with “this makes me feel okay or good for a few minutes and  just like Jell-O you can share this good feeling because the container is  a big open thing.  How many times have I been more like the little yogurt container—hard to  share  and something you have to do a lot of digging into to get to the true goodness?  How many times would I have been functional in many shapes but  i chose to be either liquid or. Frozen?    Somehow...Somehow...

I think  getting to Joy would be easier if I were more like Jell-O... A  little simpler.. and little. More childlike...already to  take on. Some other shapes and colors for the sake of. Making. Others. Smile.

That’s  all for  now...  tomorrow...we’ll be looking at  how memories  impact seeking. Peace and joy as we ponder. Jabs of  Yesterday
