Trying to recapture 2020 vision

recapturing  20/20 vision

The air was  absolutely soupy this morning.  walking  for  my routine distance was like  plowing through a room full of vaporizers (without. The Vick’s aroma)  and it sort of had the feel of strolling  through the Scottish Lowlands... (well  I’ve never strolled through there so it sort of  felt like the locker room at my high school when someone  left the windows wide open while  people were taking showers...but that  isn’t very  romantic or mysterious.  the point is... visibility was  limited.

this year—20/20  or 2020 has certainly changed the way many people  look at things including health, the economy, and social enequity.  Some folks seem to  be lost in a fog everyday.  Each day seems to offer  things in Amman that are not as clear as they once were and. In a way that is not necessarily easy to  envision moving forward.  this raised the question (for me) —just—-

How far can a human  see anyway?

Of course there is no definitive answer, however, there are some things to ponder and some  concepts to consider.

OHow bright does your candle burn?

Light which is what we actually see is measured  in lumens  and 1 lumen is the light given off by one candle.  So my birthday cake has the  candle power of a Supernova... however, that’s not the point of this. Post...  Since all candles pretty much emit the same  amount of light—candlelight is often used as the  standard for judging. Vision over distances.  Research done in the 1940’s  estimated that  in ideal conditions a candle could be seen  from. As far away as (get this range 3.6 miles to 30 miles).  Now from flat ground humans cannot see around the curve of the earth so 30 miles isn’t possible and 3.6 miles is almost as unlikely except if the candle exists in ideal conditions and is probably. Flickering.

What if we change  our perspective/

Well  interestingly enough  if you are in a  plane or standing on  a really high mountain or swinging from a lightning rod on

Trump tower you can see quite some distance.  From Mt. Everest it is estimated you can see about 300 hundred miles though I would think you would spend only a few moments looking anywhere but at your. Feet because if you fall... it’s lights out and  you may only be seeing  St. Peter or the gates of Hell...

Also  people will argue that. You can see stars that are billions of miles (or millions—I’m not Galileo  so I don’t know the exact distance) but. A long ways away... Technically  the light you are seeing is more  a long time away than a long distance away which provides us  with the  third of the three lessons  I’m about to summarize...

To  summarize 2020 is a year that will continue to challenge. Our vision of what’s around us and  what might be around us in the days to come.

Second, your vision and what you might see definitely depends upon the perspectives  you are willing to adopt and the vantage points you have the courage to explore.

ThirdSometimes it take a very long time  for us to see the true light, shape,  and scope of things, however sometimes the things we wait the longesat to see wind up guiding us  to many great. Stops on our journey.

well... that’s about all the lights. I can shiner on this  today...

I’ll  finish up with these two. Little paraphrased  quotes..

There is much magic when you can explore by heading toward the first star to the right and going on toward morning and

WYour vision has far less to do with  the stars your eyes can see than the universe made visible by  your imagination.

Oh.. and one more that someone just chimed in...

No need to be afraid of what you can’t see clearly... because  it doesn’t work to sleep with one. Hey open holding your  pillow tight —It’s always good to end with Metallica !
